General Connector Questions
1. Is it alright to get form release on a rubber connector?
 Sprayed on form oil won’t hurt but you want to try to avoid it as much as possible. We suggest brushing it on the mandrel to keep it away from the connector.

2. How long will an A-LOK connector last under normal sanitary conditions?
For the life of the concrete structure. The first A-LOK installations were done in 1971 and are still intact and working fine.

3. How long will an A-LOK connector last under salt water conditions?
For the life of the concrete structure.

4. If the way an A-LOK connector is cast in is not perfectly round can it still be used?
As long as it is not out of round by more than ¼”.

5. If for whatever reason a connector is removed from a structure can it be reused?
Yes, as long as it is properly cleaned, by removing all concrete from the connector.

6. Is there a front and a back to an A-LOK compression connector?
NO

7. How much head pressure can a A-LOK compression connector hold?
 15 PSI or 34.5 feet.

18.5 %

Connector Repair
1. How do we repair A- LOK compression connectors when they leak? Be sure manhole is safe to enter.
1. Check for debris trapped in between connector and OD of pipe. If debris found remove by running a thin trowel in between the connector and the pipe.
2. Inflate the connector if it not tight to the pipe.
3. Use urethane grout material, AV-202, to stop the leak.

2. What if a splice on a connector separates or breaks?
The connector should be replaced.

3. What if the contractor tears an A-LOK compression connector before or during installation?
Call A-LOK 1-800-822-2565 it may be able to be repaired.

Mandrel
1. Do you need mandrels for every size pipe?
Yes, unless the difference between the pipes OD’s is plus or minus ¼”.

2. How long does a fiberglass mandrel last?
Depending on how much it’s used, if it’s cleaned and oiled after use and removed from the structure with a dead blow hammer there is no telling how long it can last.

3. What determines equipment delivery time?
  • Is it a stock or non stocking item?

  • The quantity ordered 1 or 100.

  • Is it a size we have made or a brand new size?

  • The travel time from our plant(s) to yours.

  • How many orders are already in house at the time your order is placed?

4. Why is there a flat spot on the mandrel?
The flat spot helps center pipe, over 18 inches in diameter, and a compression connector for installation. The flat spot should always be on the outside and towards the bottom of a manhole.

5.  What is a good way to organize and store mandrels?

Mandrels should be matched in pairs by their size. 

 
6.  What size hole do I need to drill if I am bolting the mandrels to the form ?

You will need to drill a 13/16 of an inch hole.

Installation
1. How close can I put two holes in a manhole using A-LOK compression connectors?
1/2 the distance of the smallest pipes outside diameter, OD.

2. What distance can an A-LOK compression connector be placed from the manhole spigot?
6 inches, plus the joint.

3. What distance can an A-LOK compression connector be placed up from a manhole base bottom?
 2-4 inches.

4. Can a contractor push the pipe in and out of an A-LOK compression connector?
Yes, if the pipe is beveled and lubed and properly centered in the pipe, but it’s not recommended.
